Thank you for helping us win $10,000 for water monitoring!

March 11, 2009

You've been getting updates every week about the River Network/MillerCoors grant contest that pledged $10,000 each to four organizations with the most online votes.  We just found out that we came in second place and will be getting $10,000 for our Volunteer Water Monitoring program!
We are so grateful to you for taking the time to vote for us and spread the word to others.  We are especially thrilled to see how Riverkeeper moved up in the ranks every week.  After the first week of voting we were in fourth place, after the second week we had moved to third place, and when the contest ended on Friday we were in second place with a total of 1,897 votes.
The grant money will go directly to training and equipment for volunteers who are testing water quality in the Milwaukee, Menomonee and Kinnickinnic Rivers.  Their work helps us to understand the current health of the waterways and to see where improvements need to be made.  The program is at the core of what our organization stands for - keeping an eye on the rivers and working to improve water quality.  Thank you so very much for helping us to keep this program going strong!
