Dear Friend of the River,

The COVID-19 is an evolving situation that we at Milwaukee Riverkeeper are taking very seriously. As we watch it unfold around the globe, in the United States and here at home, we acknowledge that the disruption and uncertainty associated with the current situation is unsettling for everyone. We feel deep empathy for those who have been affected by this pandemic and those who will be impacted.

As cases continue to grow in Milwaukee and nearby communities, we are increasingly aware of the impact it will have on the people we care about, local companies and nonprofit organizations, and our healthcare system. We are closely monitoring the situation and following the guidance provided by the Center for Disease Control, the Wisconsin Department of Health and the World Health Organization. As such, we have closed the Milwaukee Riverkeeper offices and postponed or cancelled events indefinitely. However, during this challenging time, our work will continue. Staff will continue to work remotely to practice the social distancing necessary to stop the spread of this illness and to help relieve the strain on the healthcare system. If you need to contact a team member, please reach out via email or phone and we will assist you.

As we look ahead, in our 25th anniversary year, to a season filled with special events including the 25th Annual Milwaukee Riverkeeper Spring Cleanup on Saturday April 18, 2020 (9am-12pm), our largest event of the year, we want to assure you that while we are still putting plans in place, safety is our first priority. Registration will remain open, and we are currently planning to host the event with the hope that current measures will prove effective and we will be able to restore ourselves and our community later in April. We will continually assess these decisions and share updates with you as they become available.

This is a difficult time for so many in our community, our country and our world. May you and your loved ones remain healthy and safe.

To a healthy community and world, and to healthy waterways,

Jennifer Bolger Breceda, Executive Director
